The regulatory picture: the EU AI Act, GDPR, and the EHS side of it
Parts of the EU AI Act already apply. The prohibited practices and the AI literacy obligation have been in force since February 2025, and the transparency duties since August 2026. Obligations for high-risk systems land later, at the end of 2027, but that is preparation time rather than relief: those are largely the same systems companies are deploying right now. GDPR, meanwhile, applies in full to any solution that processes worker data.
And EHS almost always sits at the most sensitive intersection: it handles worker data, it monitors for safety reasons, and it produces documentation that may be relied on in front of a regulator. That is why a well-intentioned, safety-improving AI solution often falls under several sets of rules at once.
